3 simple ways to encourage your baby to walk

Many babies have already learned to walk without support between the ages of 12 and 18 months. Some may have taken their first steps earlier, others will learn later. Babies develop differently: from sitting alone, to crawling, to standing up and walking (and later, running and jumping!)

If your child is one year old and still shows no signs of wanting to walk or is afraid to walk alone, there is absolutely nothing wrong. But if you want to encourage your baby to walk, here are 3 simple ways to do it:

Helps strengthen his muscles

Having your baby do some simple muscle-strengthening exercises will help his body prepare for walking. One thing you can try is letting her sit without any help. Place a toy in front of her and ask her to pick it up and return to a sitting position. Place the object in various positions and distances to help improve stability and also strengthen the back, shoulder and leg muscles.

Just make sure you are nearby to keep your baby safe in case he stumbles, especially in the beginning.

Let her go back and forth

When your child can pull himself up (while holding onto an object), he will begin to take his few steps, dragging himself forward while holding onto a table, sofa, or other furniture. This helps with his mobility. Then he twists her back and forth with one hand on a piece of furniture while you hold his other hand. You can try placing a toy on one end of the sofa to encourage your baby to get closer.

Before you know it, he’ll let go of the sofa and hold you tight with both hands!

Bring push or pull toys
